Do you own a Holden that has an intake that looks like the pic above? Want to increase the area of the intake by around 50 per cent without spending a cent? Have a sharp knife? Want the mod to be largely invisible? Yes to all those? Well, read on....

We could spend a lot of time padding-out this story - but we won't. So here goes: the 5 minute, zero cost Holden intake mod.

Step 1

Undo the two plastic screws that hold the intake snorkel in place.

Step 2

Lift the snorkel away from the car.

Step 3

Turn the snorkel over and place it on a bench.

Step 4

Look back at the car and note how Holden has already cut a hole through the bonnet locking platform.

Step 5

Use a sharp knife to cut out the bottom, front section of the snorkel - the bit that protrudes through the hole shown above.

Step 6

Inspect the opening that you have made.

Step 7

Trim the edges to make the opening look neat.

Step 8

Reinstall the intake snorkel. Note that now the opening through which air can flow into the snorkel has risen from about 80 square centimetres to about 120 square centimetres - and that the new opening is also picking up air from a high pressure area...
