I found this article at autospeed.com and thought you might be interested in reading it: 'Cutting-Edge Aerodynamics' - Looking at some recently patented aerodynamic technologies. One area that will see major growth in the next few years is that of movable spoilers. Sure, one version of the R31 Skyline and the RZ Supra ran movable front spoilers, while a variety of Porsche models have used moveable rear spoilers. But when you consider that major changes in drag and lift can be made by using body parts that shift in position, it makes sense to put them into use on a much wider variety of cars. To find out where automotive design is going in this area we've done a search of recent relevant US patents - these cover just-released technologies as well as those still a few years away from commercial application.
