- Food for thought from the alt.autos.audi newsgroup: "I took my Audi S4 to the dealer-recommended tint-shop. They did a fantastic job. They also used (without asking me or charging me extra) the newest metallic tint. Which has completely obliterated AM reception. The dealership recognized the problem immediately when I called and asked if there could be a connection; the problem is that the antenna is on the rear window and the tint prevents it from working."
- Following its third consecutive victory in the USA's toughest off-road racing series, the six-round SCORE Desert Racing Series, Kia is entering a team of two Sportages in what is generally regarded as the most difficult motor sport event in the world, this month's Paris-Dakar-Cairo 2000 rally.
- Michelin has released a simple card-based tread depth indicator aimed at making tyre tread checking a quick and easy job for anybody. The card is available free from all Bob Jane T-Marts, Tyrepower stores or local Michelin tyre dealers and can be kept in the glovebox, ready for a regular monthly tread check. And on tyre safety, BFGoodrich suggests an average of 60 per cent of 4WDs have incorrect tyre inflation pressures.
- British Police have become the latest fans of Proton's new Satria GTi, putting the Hot Hatch into service to "catch the villains on their patch". The Humberside Police force has taken delivery of Proton's exciting new GTi as a pursuit and rapid response car serving alongside the force's fleet of 145 Proton Personna and Satria station cars.
- Honda Motor Co and General Motors Corporation (GM) have confirmed plans for a powertrain cross-supply arrangement as the first step in a new relationship that may lead to future cooperation in other areas. Honda will supply GM with advanced V6 Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) engines and automatic transmissions. Similarly, Isuzu Motors Limited, a GM group company, will supply diesel engines to Honda for sale principally in Europe. Specific terms and details of each engine agreement are to be determined.
- Ford has released the limited edition Fairlane Millennium featuring unique styling details and almost $4,000 worth of extra equipment at no extra cost.
- Hyundai is offering new Excel buyers a Sportz Pack worth up to $2000 retail for no extra cost for a limited time.
- Mercedes-Benz has again topped its section in the 1999 National Business Bulletin magazine Corporate Image Survey. Conducted annually, the survey of more than 750 senior business executives, rates corporate reputations in Australia and market perceptions of Australia's leading brand identities.
- Hyundai's new 'big six' family size Grandeur sedan has forged its first major inroad into the competitive car rental fleet market with sales of 400 cars nationally to Avis and another 20 to Hertz in Tasmania. AutoSpeed will have a full test of the new Grandeur in a few weeks time.
- The first 400 new Alfa Romeo 156 owners in the new millennium will get the 21st century off to a flying start with the Italian car maker including up to $5000 worth of additional equipment in their new sports saloon, all for no additional cost. All versions of the Alfa Romeo 156 gain a full leather interior, hand-crafted by the renowned Momo automotive upholstery company, and a six-stack CD multi-changer. In addition, the Alfa Romeo 156 Twin Spark gains alloy wheels.
- Alfa Romeo is targeting sales of 350,000 units by 2001, a remarkable rate of growth for the Italian sports car maker, which will be fuelled by the launch of new versions of its hot selling sports saloon, the Alfa 156, and a new small car, codenamed the Alfa Romeo 147.
